What is Cozaar?

Cozaar, or the gerenic Losartan, is a drug used to treat high blood pressure. It in in a class of drugs called angiotensin II receptor blockers and it works by relaxing blood vessels. For some patients, Cozaar is used to decrease the risk of stroke or to treat kidney problems caused by diabetes.

Angiotensin II receptor blockers are generally not the first line of defense, as diuertics and beta blockers are generally used first to treat hypertension.

Cozaar Side Effects

There are several side effects associated with Cozaar. Get emergency help immediately if you show any signs of being allergic to Cozaar, such as hives, swelling of the face, tongue, lips or throat; or difficulty breathing. Cozaar, in rare cases, can also cause a condition that deteriorates the skeletal muscle tissue which leads to kidney failure. If you experience muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness with a fever, nausea or vomiting and dark colored urine; call your doctor immediately.

Other serious Cozaar side effects:

  • feeling light headed
  • painful or difficult urination
  • numbness or tingly feeling
  • chest pain
  • pale skin
  • easy bruising or bleeding
  • slow heart rate, weak pulse
  • swelling in hands or feet

Less serious Cozaar side effects:
  • runny or stuffy nose
  • sore throat
  • cough
  • muscle, back or leg pain
  • diarrhea
  • headache, dizziness
  • tiredness
  • insomnia
